Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has delivered a firm response to speculation around the Philadelphia Eagles’ future, making it clear he expects the team to remain in the city.

Recent comments from owner Jeffrey Lurie sparked fresh discussion about the franchise’s long-term plans.

But while the idea of relocation created noise, Shapiro has now stepped in to reinforce where the Eagles belong.

Philadelphia Eagles’ future in Philadelphia addressed by Josh Shapiro

Speaking in a recent interview shared via Audacy, the Pennsylvania Governor gave a direct and confident response to the situation.

“We’re not going to lose the Birds. They’re going to stay in Philly. They’re asking the fans what they think. They’re thinking about their future. I got no problem with that.

I appreciate the way in which they’re doing it. I actually thought Jeffrey’s comments were very thoughtful and sober, and he wasn’t saber-rattling,” Shapiro said.

Shapiro’s stance removes ambiguity. While acknowledging the franchise’s right to explore options, he made it clear he does not see relocation as a realistic outcome.

The emphasis remains on stability, with confidence that the Eagles’ identity is tied to Philadelphia.

Jeffrey Lurie comments on the Philadelphia Eagles’ future direction

The discussion began when Jeffrey Lurie addressed how the organization approaches long-term decisions.

“Whatever’s best for the fans. I mean, we don’t really go on a geographical basis. It’s whatever’s best for the fans.

“And I can’t tell you where [the planned stadium in] Cleveland is, Barcelona is, I don’t know. Honestly, the bottom line is whatever is best for the fans,” Lurie said.

Those remarks opened the door to interpretation, particularly around whether location could become flexible if circumstances changed. However, they were framed more around philosophy than a concrete plan to move the franchise.

With Shapiro’s response now on record, the message is clear. The Eagles may be exploring their future, but the expectation from state leadership is that it will remain firmly rooted in Philadelphia.
