Mike Dean has been appointed referee for Saturday’s huge Premier League match between Aston Villa and Manchester United.
The league confirmed on their official website that the charismatic official will take charge of Villa’s away trip to Manchester on Saturday, Dean Smith’s side will be hoping to build from their 3-0 win against Everton last weekend.
It will be an interesting fixture. With Villa playing well against United since their return to the Premier League two years ago. However, the appointment of Dean has already got supporters fearing the worst.
Dean is known for being somewhat trigger happy when it comes to awarding penalties. And with Villa facing off against a United side that will likely feature Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes, a spot-kick feels inevitable from the referee.
Moreover, the Red Devils are yet to win a penalty this season, and Villa supporters on social media believe that the law of averages means that the referee will likely award one to them this weekend.
United have started the season strongly, with the Manchester giants just scrapping by West Ham over the weekend to claim a 2-1 win. Yet Villa will be up for Saturday when they make the trip to Old Trafford.

But as for Villa fans on social media, they are already fearing the worst with the news that Dean will referee the match this weekend.
Here’s what some supporters had to say on Twitter about Dean taking charge of the clash on Saturday…
