West Ham United are reportedly keen on Kostas Mitroglou.

West Ham United have seen Marko Arnautovic thrive again so far this season, but Manuel Pellegrini appears to be keen on adding another striker.

Austrian ace Arnautovic is banging in the goals again, and whilst Javier Hernandez scored against Burnley on Saturday, there are question marks over his ability to play as a lone striker.

That may leave West Ham looking for another centre forward, and the Daily Mail report that Pellegrini is keen to bring in Marseille hitman Kostas Mitroglou.

The Greek international, 30, hit 13 goals last season and has already found the net six times this term, with West Ham now believed to be chasing a loan deal for the target man.

A former Fulham flop, Mitroglou was a goal machine at Benfica and has been valuable to Marseille too, but if West Ham sign him, it’s surely the end for Andy Carroll as a Hammers player.

Mitroglou has many of the same attributes as Carroll; big, strong, physical and good in the air, offering a focal point to the attack and a potential game-changer off the bench, but the Greek ace comes with fewer injury woes than the former Liverpool man.

It seems unlikely that Pellegrini would sign another centre forward with Carroll still at the club, and with Carroll’s contract expiring at the end of the season, his days may just be numbered.

If Mitroglou arrives in January, it would be little surprise to see Carroll move on whilst West Ham can still get money for him, and Pellegrini may just be about to end Carroll’s West Ham career once and for all by bringing in Mitroglou as his replacement.
