Pedro Porro and James Maddison were the two high-profile Tottenham Hotspur names to miss out on a place at Euro 2024 this summer.
So, it was fitting that England and Spain locked horns in the final on Sunday in Berlin.
To the disappointment of James Maddison, he had to watch his nation crash to another final defeat, whilst Spain’s vibrant young squad surprised many by winning every game and going on to lift the main crown.
Even the Spain supporters themselves didn’t expect much from their team at the start of the tournament because they are still in transition.
On one hand, Spain have record-breaking Euro 2024 star Lamine Yamal, but on the other, they have 32-year-old Dani Carvajal and 38-year-old Jesus Navas in the squad.
Both experienced fullbacks were picked ahead of Porro, despite his productive season in Tottenham colours and helping them progress under Ange Postecoglou.
The 24-year-old was first signed by Antonio Conte and he found life difficult in the Premier League during his first few months.
But all of that changed on its head last season and many were expecting him to earn that final Euro 2024 ticket to Germany.
It wasn’t meant to be and he was axed, but that hasn’t stopped Porro from supporting his country from afar.
Players can easily sulk in these situations, but Porro has taken to Instagram to laud and applaud his fellow countryman for winning the European championships.
Spain beat England in Euro 2024 final
“Congratulations, Spain,” wrote Porro, added with several heart emojis. “We are champions of Europe.
“Emotion, joy, and above all, pride for all of you to take Spain to the highest once again. Let’s ___ it!!!”

Pedro Porro is next in line
Given the ages of Carvajal and Navas, you don’t expect them to go on much longer and that would open the door for Porro to come in.
This isn’t a case of the Spurs star being far behind, in fact, he’s probably the next choice in.

It’s just a case of Luis de la Fuente being ruthless and doing things his way and his way only.
That was proven by the selection of Yamal. He turned 17 during the tournament, yet he started every game bar one, with senior figures, such as Ferran Torres, warming the bench.
