Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has been praised by his teammates after his performance against Newcastle United on Sunday.
Tottenham are back to winning ways after five games without victory.
Spurs were by far the better side against Newcastle on Sunday afternoon and took a 2-0 lead through Destiny Udogie and Richarlison.
The Brazilian added number three with Son Heung-min making it 4-1 before Newcastle pulled one back.
Nothing could spoil Tottenham’s win with a number of players stepping up with big performances, including defender Cristian Romero.
Cristian Romero reacts to Tottenham win on Instagram
Romero recently returned from suspension having been given a straight red card against Chelsea last month.
The Argentinian scored against West Ham United but tested defeat, so he will be much happier with Sunday’s display – even if losing the clan sheet will irritate him.
Romero was strong and aggressive, albeit going a little over the line with one challenge on Callum Wilson.
Arguably lucky to avoid another red card, Romero just can’t seem to hold himself back from a challenge and it gets him into trouble more often than not.
Romero took to Instagram after the final whistle, sending a positive message about life under Ange Postecoglou.
“I have no doubt that we are on the right track. Let’s keep everything together always, whatever happens always together,” said Romero.
Teammates responded with winger Bryan Gil simply stating ‘what a player’ following Romero’s latest display.
Pedro Porro added ‘player of the match’, seemingly in no doubt over Tottenham’s top performer against Newcastle.
There was even a message from former Spurs winger and Romero’s fellow Argentinian Erik Lamela, with the defender earning huge plaudits.
Tottenham are a better side with Romero available and Sunday’s rash foul was a reminder that he can take himself off the pitch at any time.
We don’t want to see that and for Romero to really take that next step towards the top tier of centre backs, he needs to cut that out of his game.
