West Ham United were unable to secure a deal for a central midfielder.
With Pedro Obiang set to miss the remainder of the season, West Ham United fans can feel even more annoyed that they missed out on signing Tom Cairney, Jonjo Shelvey and Joe Allen in the January transfer window, with the trio all being linked to a move to the London Stadium by Sky Sports.
West Ham’s board has already been fiercely criticised for the lack of business that they did last month.
The Hammers only brought in Joao Mario and Jordan Hugill to immediately impact on the first-team, which has left them short of options.
David Moyes immediately set about bringing in a central midfielder in January, but they were unable to strengthen in that area, as they decided against meeting the asking price for their targets.
And that failure could already come back to haunt them, after Obiang’s injury.
Obiang is due to miss the rest of the season, which leaves Moyes’ options in central midfield looking sparse.
West Ham could have had the perfect opportunity to bring one of their new signings into the first-team now, with Obiang’s sidelined, but their failure to make additions now looks set to prove even more costly.
And Moyes will have to hope that the Hammers already have enough in their squad to see them clear of the drop zone.
