The West Ham United midfielder could become increasingly important in the next few years.
According to a recent report from the Sun, Liverpool are interested in signing West Ham United midfielder Pedro Obiang this summer, but if the Spaniard is smart he should stay at the London Stadium and form the bedrock of the club’s next great team.
At just 24, Obiang has years ahead of him and with Hammers skipper Mark Noble flagging it would be a mistake to sell a player who has really come into his own this season.
West Ham may be below Liverpool right now but things can change quickly in football, especially when you consider the sheer number of talented youngsters coming through the ranks.
Martin Samuelsen, Reece Burke, Toni Martinez, Reece Oxford, Domingos Quina and Nathan Holland all have what it takes to be future West Ham stars. However they will need more experienced players around them and Obiang ticks that box.
If West Ham manager Slaven Bilic is brave enough to start giving his teenage talents sustained chances next season, it will not be long before he is building a side capable of making the step up, and Obiang would be wise to remain for the ride.
He had to wait patiently for his chance to impress but now he has it would be foolish for the Hammers to cash in on him, while a little long-term thinking from the player himself could see him richly rewarded in London.
