Pedro Obiang praises form of West Ham pair Noble and Rice

Pedro Obiang has not started any of West Ham United’s last four games, but that has only left the midfielder even more determined.

Pedro Obiang has told West Ham’s official website that he cannot complain about being kept out of the team by Mark Noble and Declan Rice right now, and insisted that he is simply more determined to get another chance.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men are enjoying a superb run of form. Their 2-0 victory over Fulham on Saturday was their fourth consecutive win in the Premier League and they now find themselves inside the top half of the table.

Noble and Rice have been crucial to their success in recent weeks. The pair have been excellent in the middle of the park, and their performances have restricted Obiang to three substitute appearances in the recent run.

But Obiang suggested that he can understand why he is not playing right now, and stressed that he is not going to sit around and feel sorry for himself.

“I don’t feel the pressure. I feel happy. It’s always better when we win, rather than when we lose,” he told the club’s official website.

“Mark and Declan keep playing well and that means I have to train better and improve, which is only a good thing.”

With five fixtures in 15 days starting with the home game against Watford at the weekend, Obiang will more than likely get his chance to prove a point to Pellegrini sooner rather than later – even if the club’s winning run continues.

Obiang was arguably one of several West Ham midfielders to struggle for form throughout the campaign last season. But he is now helping to turn a potential weak point in the Hammers’ squad into a real strength under Pellegrini.
