Reported Liverpool target and Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Pedro Neto will not play until at least October, according to The Athletic.

What’s the story?

The Athletic have reported that Neto has a broken kneecap and is not expected to be back in action until at least October.

The Portugal international winger suffered the injury in April and did not play again last season.

Liverpool interest

Goal reported this month that Liverpool are interested in Wolves winger Neto.

No summer transfer to Liverpool?

Neto being injured at the moment and unable to play before October means that a move to Liverpool will not happen this summer.

It is very unlikely that the former Premier League champions will sign a player who is injured and may not be back to his best until the middle or towards the end of next season.

It can take players quite a while to rediscover their best form after a long-term injury.

Liverpool’s interest in Neto makes sense, but if they make a move for the Wolves winger, then it is going to be in January 2022 or next summer.

Neto, who can also play upfront or in a central attacking midfield role, joined Wolves in the summer of 2019 for a transfer fee reported by Transfermarkt.com to be worth €17.9 million (£15.37 million).

The Wolves no.7 made 30 starts and one substitute appearance in the Premier League last season.

The 21-year-old scored five goals and gave six assists in those games.
