Tottenham Hotspur recorded a point in Greece in their Champions League opener on Wednesday night.
Pedro Martins has claimed that the ‘critics’ will say that Tottenham Hotspur ‘didn’t play well’ against Olympiacos on Wednesday night rather than focusing on how well his team performed.
The Greek-based boss claimed that Olympiacos ‘dominated’ their 2-2 draw against Tottenham in the Champions League, and they had to pay for their ‘two mistakes’ on the night.
Spurs burst into a two-goal lead inside the first half an hour, but before the clock could hit the hour mark, the home team were on level terms.
The performance from the North London club was lacklustre, especially during the second half, where Martins side could have won the game.
Nonetheless, this is what the Olympiacos man had to say about the opening group game encounter, as he seemingly wanted more praise to go towards his team.
“We dominated the game,” said Martins, as quoted by The Independent. “We had more chances, but we paid for two mistakes. We reacted well after that.
“Our reaction was more than positive and we were better. Tomorrow critics will say Tottenham didn’t play very well, but Olympiacos did play well. The draw is good because we came back from 2-0 but in the end, we could do better.”
After the first round of Champions League football, Spurs are sitting second in Group B, with German champions Bayern Munich currently sitting top.
The Bundesliga giants beat Red Star Belgrade on Wednesday night, with Spurs hosting Munich at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at the start of next month.
It could be argued that Spurs have not hit full speed yet, as they will be backed to reach the knockout stages, though they will not want to make it as difficult as they made it last season.
