Pedro Caixinha’s Rangers should make a move for Hibernian forward James Keatings despite his Celtic past.

James Keatings - Celtic Youth

Former Celtic forward James Keatings has suggested to The Scottish Sun that he could leave Hibernian in the summer transfer window.

Keatings, who parted company with Scottish giants Celtic in 2013, has suggested that he could depart Hibs if he is not considered an important part of Neil Lennon’s side next season.

“You never know what’s ahead,” Keatings told The Scottish Sun. “I’ve got my offer here and other teams have shown interest, although I have not had anything put in front of me yet.

“I want to stay. I’m happy and I’d be delighted to sign tomorrow, so we’ll see what happens. It’s a good position to be in, but first-team football makes the decision a difficult one.

“Ask any player, they want to play week in, week out. No player wants to settle for sitting on the bench. That’s the most frustrating bit.

“I know I’m good enough to play there. I know I can make the step up. I’ve played with players that are playing in the Premiership and I know my capabilities.”

Keatings has won promotion from the Scottish Championship to the Scottish Premiership with three different clubs – Hamilton Academical, Heart of Midlothian and now Hibernian.

The 25-year-old forward has not been given the chance to showcase his quality in the Scottish Premiership, and Rangers would be wise to make a move for him.

True, Keatings was at Celtic as recently as 2013, but Kenny Miller is also a former Celtic player, and he seems to be quite popular among the Rangers fan.

Yes, it would be a risk to sign Keatings, but every new signing is a gamble to some extent. The former Scotland Under-19 international seems to be hungry and determined to succeed in the Scottish Premiership, and Rangers, managed by Pedro Caixinha, would be wise to give him the platform to showcase his talent.
