Dalcio will play on the wing for Rangers next season, according to manager Pedro Caixinha. And that’s bad news for Martyn Waghorn.
Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha
The likelihood is that the average Rangers supporter knows very little about Pedro Caixinha’s latest addition – former Benfica B forward Dalcio.
After all, prior to his move to Ibrox earlier this week, the 21-year-old’s Wikipedia page consisted of just three short paragraphs. And while that is no indictment of a player’s quality, it’s clear that Dalcio is far from a household name.
Though at least Caixinha has managed to dispel any confusion over the position the versatile forward will be playing next season.
“He has the characteristics to play from both wide areas,” Caixinha told The Scotsman.

“He is left footed but he is comfortable playing on the right, he is the type of player who is comfortable in receiving the ball and he is aggressive attacking the defenders.”
Therefore, Rangers supporters can expect to see Dalcio flying down the flanks at Ibrox next season.
Wing wonder
And if Martyn Waghorn was already facing an uncertain future at the Scottish giants, the Daily Record reporting that he will be available for just £400,000 this summer, the fact that Caixinha sees Dalcio as an option on the wings casts further doubt on the 27-year-old being at Ibrox next season.
Rangers’ Martin Waghorn has a good goal record but has failed to convince Caixinha
After all, the former Sunderland youngster was frequently used in wide positions during the final two months of the season under Caixinha. And, for the most part, he failed to impress with an inspiration over perspiration approach lending itself to plenty of hard work but little end product.
And it appears that Dalcio’s arrival may have forced Waghorn further down the pecking order.
The Daily Mail reported in March that Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and former club Sunderland were interested in Waghorn this summer. And the forward may be hoping they have retained their interest.
