Pedro Caixinha has been unveiled as Glasgow Rangers’ new manager, succeeding Mark Warburton at Ibrox.

Pedro Caixinha has told Rangers’ official YouTube account that he believes that he is taking over at the biggest club in Scotland due to the number of Scottish Premiership titles the Ibrox side have secured in their history.
Caixinha’s appointment was confirmed just days after the Gers secured a spirited point against Celtic that leaves them 33 points adrift of the Hoops, who are on the verge of securing their sixth consecutive title.
But despite the current gulf between the two Old Firm teams, Caixinha – who seemed extremely confident during his first press conference since taking the reins at Ibrox – explained why he feels that Rangers is the biggest club in the country.
He said, as reported by the club’s official YouTube account: “Why I think like that?”
“I just give you two numbers: 144 years old, 54 league titles. That’s more than enough.”
Rangers – who were formed in 1872 and celebrate 145 years since their first game in May – are undoubtedly one of the most decorated teams across the world, but that could prove to be a blessing or a curse for Caixinha.
The Portuguese will have to cope with the expectation of trying to lead the great club to the level they were before their dramatic plight, and that seemed to be one of the factors that hurt Mark Warburton’s chances of success this term.
But the stature should also help Caixinha when it comes to dealings in the transfer market as there will surely be few players who would be able to reject a move to Ibrox if the opportunity presented itself.
