Glasgow Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha has told the Scotsman that he laid into his side at half-time during their match against Motherwell, but it was not enough to inspire them to victory.

Rangers went into the break with the score locked at 0-0 yesterday, but their performance during the opening 45 minutes of the contest was short of their best.

Rangers looked out of sorts at Hampden Park, but Caixinha’s stern words at half-time did little to inspire his team, as they slipped to a 2-0 defeat.

The Portuguese boss said: “I’m the one who needs to lead them in the right direction. I told the boys at half time, there was only one team on the pitch that looks like they are there to win the match. We were not doing what we needed to do and that’s the only thing I’m asking.”

Motherwell went on to score two goals after the break, with Louis Moult scoring both times.

Moult first finished well from close range, before he netted with a delicate chip to secure the victory.

Rangers’ defeat has pilled more pressure on Caixinha, with the calls for the 46-year-old manager to be dismissed by the Ibrox side now growing louder.

Rangers’ defeat to Motherwell means that it will now be Steve Robinson’s side who take on Celtic in the final of the Scottish League Cup.
