Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers were without James Tavernier for their most recent friendly match.

Glasgow Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha has told the Scottish Herald that he expects James Tavernier to be back in training for his side this week.

Rangers had to play without Tavernier in their latest pre-season friendly against Sheffield Wednesday.

Lee Hodson deputised in Tavernier’s absence, and impressed as Rangers picked up an eye catching 2-0 pre-season victory at Hillsborough.

And Caixinha could have a selection dilemma ahead of Rangers’ first game of the season at the weekend, as Tavernier should also be fully fit for that contest against Motherwell.

“He received a kick in the Watford match and he was substituted in the middle of the first half,” Caixinha said.

“That’s why he did not play today but Lee did a fantastic job. We are waiting for the medical reports but we hope he will be back training on Tuesday.”

Rangers started this season in inauspicious style, after crashing out of the Europa League in humiliating style against Progres from Luxembourg.

However, the Light Blues’ results have improved considerably more recently and confidence is starting to grow at Ibrox.

Rangers will now be under pressure to build on the increasing momentum and pick up three points against Motherwell at the weekend.
