Glasgow Rangers beat Progres 1-0 at Ibrox in the Europa League last night.

Pedro Caixinha has told Glasgow Rangers’ official website that his midfield did not work as desired in the second-half of last night’s match against Progres in the Europa League.

Rangers won 1-0 in the first leg of their Europa League qualifier against the side from Luxembourg, but perhaps weren’t as dominant as many expected.

And Caixinha feels that Rangers lost their way slightly in the second half, which forced him to bring Jordan Rossiter on to replace Ryan Jack.

“In the second half the team’s rhythm fell a little bit,” the Portuguese boss explained. “We tried to make one change that, along the game was not the best one. We tried to, with Niko and Kenny, call more responsibility and have more of the ball in between lines in order for [Ryan] Jack to stay to alone in front of the centre-halves.

“That was not so good, so we could not have the ball down there and we allowed the opponent to have some transitions. So we needed to balance again, calling Jordan Rossiter on the pitch.”

Rangers scored the only goal in the tie through Kenny Miller, but they looked a side which was still finding their feet.

Rangers have made a number of changes this summer, with five of Caixinha’s new signings making their debuts at Ibrox.

It was the old guard who impressed the most for Rangers though, with Niko Kranjcar putting in a stand out display.

Rangers are still the heavy favourites to progress to the next round, but they will have to be on their guard in Luxembourg.

Rangers are due to play their second leg against Progres next week.
