Rangers beat Partick Thistle 3-1 in the Scottish League Cup on Tuesday night.

A general view of Ibrox Stadium is seen ahead of the EURO 2016 Qualifier match between Scotland and Georgia at Ibrox Stadium on October 11, 2014 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha has told the Daily Mail that he thinks Ross McCrorie will become one of the best centre backs in history for both Rangers and Scotland.

The Gers only visited Partick Thistle on Friday evening in a 2-2 draw, but were back at Firhill Stadium on Tuesday night for a Scottish League Cup quarter-final clash.

Caixinha’s men took the lead – just as they did on Friday – as Carlos Pena headed home Daniel Candeias’ corner, but a 90th minute equaliser Kris Doolan sent the game into extra time.

Rangers won’t have wanted an extra 30 minutes ahead of their Old Firm clash with Celtic this weekend, but they saw off Partick with goals from Candeias and Eduardo Herrera, sealing a 3-1 win.

Carlos Alberto Pena of Rangers scores the opening goal of the game during the Betfred League Cup Quarter Final at Firhill Stadium on September 19, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

The attention now turns to that Celtic clash, with defenders Declan John and Bruno Alves potentially doubtful after suffering injuries against Partick Thistle – but Ross McCrorie certainly hit the headlines.

McCrorie, 19, has come up through the ranks with Rangers, and with two caps for the Scotland Under-21’s, he has been touted for a bright future after loan spells with Ayr United and Dumbarton.

Now, Rangers boss Caixinha has told the Daily Mail that he thought centre back McCrorie was ‘brilliant’ against Partick Thistle, predicting that he will become one of the best centre backs in Rangers and Scotland history.

Caixinha added that he has no concerns about McCrorie, and he may well be in contention to play against Celtic this weekend if Alves isn’t fit enough to feature.

“Ross McCrorie is going to be one of the best centre halves in history, not just for this club but for this country,” said Caixinha. “You just need to see what he did. He was brilliant.”

“It’s not about age or names. It’s about getting the chance to prove it. I have no concerns about him. I never had and never will have. If he needs to play on Saturday, he will play,” he added.
