Glasgow Rangers striker Kenny Miller’s contract at Ibrox expires at the end of the season.
Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha
Pedro Caixinha has suggested that Kenny Miller is so important to the Rangers side as he could be considered to be something of a coach out on the pitch, the Evening Times reports.
Miller has arguably been one of the Gers’ most reliable performers this season despite his advancing years. His six goals makes him their joint leading goalscorer in the Scottish Premiership this term, while he has also not been afraid to get stuck in defensively.
And while the new Light Blues boss may prefer to rely on younger players that are likely to be playing at Ibrox for years to come, he has insisted that Miller is the ideal player to have around the squad.
“He’s doing great and he’s a player I like to have in the squad because I’m not playing and I can’t be on the bench with a remote control so you need to have coaches [on the pitch] as well, players with that experience and understanding of the game,” he said, as reported by the Evening Times.
“It’s important to have people in the squad who are role models for the others.”

While the Portuguese also offered little information regarding Miller’s future (via Evening Times) – he is out of contract at the end of the season – his assessment of the 37-year-old’s importance perhaps hints that Caixinha would prefer to keep the stalwart at the club beyond this summer.
Miller may not be the long-term answer, but he could surely do a decent job helping during this period of transition while the rest of the squad are trying to adapt to Caixinha’s methods and philosophies.
