Glasgow Rangers are gearing up for their first match since the transfer window closed.

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha looks on during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Hibernian at Ibrox Stadium on August 12, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha has been speaking to reporters ahead of his side’s league clash against Dundee on Saturday, with his comments later posted on the Gers’ official Twitter account.

Rangers have had a mixed start to the new campaign, picking up seven points from their first four matches and slipping five points behind early leaders Aberdeen as a result.

In a bid to oust reigning champions Celtic, Caixinha has made a number of new signings this summer to strengthen his options at Ibrox and 22-year-old defender Declan John recently completed a loan move from Cardiff City.

Speaking about his summer business, and the left-back in particular, Caixinha said, “(He) will add competitiveness. We didn’t have cover at left-back before him.

“Those who arrived recently need to get into the rhythm. I want two players to fight for every position. I was only going to be disappointed with the transfer window if I didn’t have cover in every position and I do.”

It is fair to say that some of Rangers’ new additions have started better than others, with the likes of Graham Dorrans and Alfredo Morelos excelling while Dalcio and Carlos Pena have done anything but.

John will be hoping he slips seamlessly into the former category but the season is long and Caixinha will understand the importance of patience.

Over an entire campaign, the vast majority of Rangers’ squad will be expected to make their mark and the Gers boss’s insistence on covering for every eventuality could prove to be a canny decision come May.
