Glasgow Rangers have completed their first signing of the summer with Bruno Alves arriving at Ibrox.
Bruno Alves has become Rangers’ first signing of the summer
Pedro Caixinha has told Rangers’ official website that Bruno Alves will be so important to the Gers because he brings a winning mentality to the side.
Alves became the Light Blues’ first acquisition of the summer and Caixinha’s first signing since his arrival, agreeing a two-year deal with the Scottish Premiership side (via club’s official website).
Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha praised Alves’ winning mentality
And while some may have some concerns about signing the 35-year-old veteran, Caixinha has explained why his countryman will be so invaluable to his squad during his time at Ibrox.
“What is important is that he is a winner with a winning mentality and that is something we all want, to put the club on a winning track again,” he told the club’s official website.
“Bruno will be a leader in the dressing room and he will demand a lot from himself and others in the squad, both on the pitch and in our training sessions.
Alves was a part of the Portugal side that won Euro 2016
“The players we are trying to bring to Rangers, we want them to have that character, that experience and that maturity, but also that winning mentality. Bruno will definitely be one player who is going to help with that.”
Alves was a key part of the Porto side that dominated the Portuguese top flight after 2005, winning four league titles with the side and numerous cup competitions.

But it was surely his medal from Euro 2016 that will mean the most to the defender, and will probably do the most to convince the Gers faithful that he is the kind of player who can help inspire the club back towards the summit of the Scottish game.
And Caixinha will be hoping that Alves is the first player of many to arrive through the door in the coming weeks who demonstrates that winning mentality in abundance.
