Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers were beaten 2-0 by Motherwell in their last fixture.

Glasgow Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha has told the Daily Telegraph that he knew exactly how Motherwell would play in the Scottish League Cup semi-final, but his team did not execute his plan correctly.

Rangers were beaten 2-0 by Motherwell at Hampden Park on Sunday, with Caixinha coming under pressure after the defeat.

Rangers conceded their first goal in the contest from a corner, and that set Motherwell up for the rest of the contest.

Louis Moult went on to score a second on the counter, as Rangers pressed for an equaliser.

And Caixinha was frustrated after the contest, as he insists that Rangers went through all the preparation required.

“Motherwell performed exactly as we knew they were going to. We didn’t. We chose exactly the right contents to place on the training sessions so that the players knew what they were facing, although we had already played Motherwell in the first game of the season,” Caixinha said.

“We worked more than usual on defending set-pieces, so we feel we prepared in the right way to show the players what we wanted from the game but, from having our team meeting at the training ground and then getting to Hampden and going out on the pitch, there was a huge difference from what we had been working on to the way the team played.”

Rangers’ defeat in the League Cup has led to frustrations rising around Ibrox, as the Light Blues do not appear to have made as much progress as hoped over the summer.

Rangers made a huge amount of changes in the previous transfer window, but they are still struggling to keep pace with league leaders Celtic.

As things stand, Caixinha’s men are in third place in the Scottish Premiership table, with Aberdeen also sitting ahead of the Light Blues.
