The Rangers manager Steven Gerrard ultimately replaced Caixinha at Ibrox in May 2018.

Pedro Caixinha could soon be back in European football – just shy of two years since he was sacked by Rangers.
Rangers brought to an end Caixinha’s ill-fated seven-and-a-half-month Ibrox reign in October 2017, replacing the Portuguese first with Graeme Murty (on an interim basis) and then with Steven Gerrard.
He returned to work as manager of Cruz Azul just six weeks later, but was given his marching orders on Monday after a disappointing start to the new Mexican season.
And another swift comeback may await Caixinha, whose name is ‘being spoken in the corridors of Sporting CP’s Estádio José Alvalade’, according to Televisão do Sul.
Sporting, who could face Rangers in the latter stages of this season’s Europa League, parted company with Marcel Keizer on Tuesday.

And Caixinha would surely jump at the chance to manage one of the biggest clubs in his homeland, should an approach be made to the former Rangers boss.
Caixinha has previously bossed União Leiria and Clube Desportivo Nacional in Portugal’s top flight, before two spells in Mexico, one in Qatar and another at Ibrox.
Rangers fans – what sort of appointment would Caixinha be for Sporting?
