Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers are set to welcome back two defenders, which is good news for Pedro Caixinha.

Pedro Caixinha poses with a team shirt after he is unveiled as the new manager of Rangers at Ibrox Stadium on March 13, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Glasgow Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha has confirmed that Bruno Alves and Declan John are close to returning to fitness.

John and Alves both missed Rangers’ clash with Celtic, and their absences were felt.

Although Ross McCrorie put in an admirable performance covering for Alves, Rangers’ make-shift back line could not stop Celtic from scoring, as the Bhoys claimed a 2-0 victory at Ibrox.

Portugal's defender Bruno Alves during the 2017 Confederations Cup semi-final football match between Portugal and Chile at the Kazan Arena in Kazan on June 28, 2017.

And Caixinha’s options will be boosted, if John and Alves are available to play in Rangers’ match on Friday evening against Hamilton.

Rangers are under pressure to get back to winning ways, after the disappointment of losing in the Old-Firm derby.

Caixinha had promised to close the gap on Celtic this season, but so far Brendan Rodgers’ side have continued to dominate.

Rangers are already seven points behind their Glasgow rivals in the Scottish Premiership table, and Caixinha’s position at Ibrox is not entirely secure.

If Rangers do win on Friday, they could move up into third place in the standings.
