Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha has commented on Carlos Pena’s adjustment to life at Ibrox.
Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha has told The Scottish Sun that he is attempting to help Carlos Pena realise that there may not be as much space for him to play in Scotland.
The Gers coasted to a 4-1 win over Dundee over the weekend, with new goalscoring sensation Alfredo Morelos continuing his stunning form with two more goals.
With three wins from the first five games of the season, Rangers are starting to show signs of progression under Caixinha, which fans will be delighted with after the embarrassing Europa League exit at the hands of Progres Niederkorn over the summer.
Morelos is just one of 11 summer signings made by Rangers, and whilst the likes of Fabio Cardoso, Ryan Jack, Graham Dorrans and Daniel Candeias have hit the ground running, others are taking a little more time to get going.
Having previously managed Santos Laguna, Caixinha used his knowledge of Mexican football to land two signings – Chivas Guadalajara midfielder Carlos Pena and UNAM striker Eduardo Herrera.
Whilst Herrera started the season as Rangers’ main striker before Morelos emergence, midfielder Pena has taken time to settle in, and scored his first goal in the 4-1 over Dundee.
Now, manager Caixinha has told The Scottish Sun that Rangers are trying to help Pena understand that he won’t always get the space he is used to in Mexico.
Caixinha noted that he had to work more with Pena than Herrera, because the striker had worked with Caixinha at Santos Laguna, whereas Pena is new to his setup – but we could now see the best of the Mexican international midfielder.
“We are preparing Carlos Pena to understand that in some games he won’t get the space he wants. That’s something he needs to adapt to,” said Caixinha. “The mindset we are creating with Carlos is different to Herrera who is also coming from Mexico. He’d already worked with us – Carlos hadn’t.”
