Glasgow Rangers sent out a major statement as they beat St Johnstone 3-0 away from Ibrox, with Carlos Pena bagging two of the goals.
Pedro Caixinha told BT Sport’s live post-match coverage of Rangers’ Scottish Premiership clash with St Johnstone (broadcast on 14th October 2017 from 19:15) that the 3-0 victory saw Carlos Pena’s best performance for the Gers since his summer move to Ibrox.
Pena arguably endured a somewhat slow start to life with the Light Blues following his £2.7 million move (via Daily Record), but appears to have grown into his role as the weeks have gone on.
And he certainly provided the biggest indication yet that he will prove to be an excellent signing for Rangers in their latest clash as he scored a brace to inspire Caixinha’s men to a 3-0 win.
And after the contest, his manager was full of praise for the Mexico international’s display.
“We know what we expect from Carlos. I know him for about five or six years, so I know what type of player we are talking about. It’s not easy coming from a different culture, a different country, a different football and getting adapted just like that.”
While the two goals were similar – with Pena peeling off towards the back post to get on the end of a brilliant James Tavernier cross – they demonstrated plenty of quality, composure and anticipation from the midfielder.
And although it may have appeared that Pena was getting off to a slow start, he undoubtedly deserves plenty of praise as his total record now stands at four goals in just eight appearances. And with those four goals coming in his last six appearances, it turns out that he has outscored top goalscorer Alfredo Morelos during that same period.
