Pedro Caixinha has told BT Sport’s live post-match coverage of Rangers’ Scottish League Cup semi-final (broadcast on 22nd October 2017 from 1:30 pm) that he is simply focused on Wednesday’s clash with Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership when asked what impact the Hampden Park defeat has had on his future.

The Gers failed to set up an Old Firm Scottish League Cup final as two second-half goals from Louis Moult saw Motherwell book their ticket to return to Hampden, while Caixinha’s wait for a first trophy since arriving at Ibrox will not end in 2016.

The defeat and the manner of it may leave some questioning whether Caixinha will end that trophy drought at any stage, or whether he should even be given the opportunity to win silverware. But the Portuguese was insistent that his sole focus is on the top flight clash with Killie on Wednesday.

“My future here at the club is to win on Wednesday and is to prepare the boys to be ready on Wednesday,” he told BT Sport’s live post-match coverage of the semi-final (broadcast on 22nd October 2017 from 1:30 pm) when asked what impact the defeat will have on his future.

“We had a poor performance, we need to show a reaction in the next match, we need to show a different phase totally. So that’s what we expect from it.”

While things have certainly improved at Rangers this season – given how many changes took place in the summer – it will be interesting to see whether Caixinha does come under pressure over the coming weeks.

Though their previous two league results were impressive, they are some way off the pace-setters in the top flight, and that gap is arguably set to become a lot more noticeable now that they are out of the cup and only have the Premiership to focus on for the next few months.
