Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers got their season off to a winning start last weekend, but Carlos Pena didn’t feature.

Glasgow Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha has told the Daily Record that Carlos Pena is not yet ready to break into his side.

Pena was brought to Rangers over the summer, and there was great excitement around Ibrox about watching the midfielder in action.

However, Pena is yet to make his competitive debut for Rangers, with the Mexican having to sit on the sidelines so far.

And Caixinha admits that Pena is not yet fit enough to make an impact for the Light Blues.

“It’s specific work with him not just on the pitch but off it as well,” Caixinha revealed.

“That’s because when it’s the right moment we want to give him the chance.

“So far we think it’s not the right moment.

“We want to have him involved as soon as possible but he is getting there. He wants to be ready and we are working to make that happen.”

Caixinha’s words suggest that it could still be a while before Pena makes his debut for Rangers.

The Light Blues are in action against Dunfermline in the Scottish League Cup later this evening, but Pena appears unlikely to feature.

Pena was an unused substitute in Rangers’ first match of the campaign, which came against Motherwell last weekend.

Rangers won 2-1 in their league opener at Fir Park, to get off to a good start.
