Pedro Acosta could be a big name in the 2027 MotoGP rider market, especially as he continues to think about his future with KTM.
The Spaniard is still looking for his first win this year, but he’s had plenty of strong results and remains highly regarded. Even without a victory, he’s managed nine podiums so far this season.
Acosta has been outspoken about the need for more investment if KTM wants to keep pace with the other top teams. It’s been an ongoing issue, and now KTM’s parent company Bajaj has decided to cut costs by half across all departments, including motorsport.
Pedro Acosta ‘smiled’ at news of VR46 interest
Pedro Acosta is looking to leave KTM due to their ongoing financial issues, with his manager, Albert Valera, already in talks with multiple teams.
Honda are showing interest in the 21-year-old as they aim to get back on top. They have more financial resources than anyone else in the paddock, but Ducati still looks like a more appealing option.

Earlier this year, Acosta tried to force a move to VR46 and break his KTM contract. Valentino Rossi has long admired the Spaniard, but Carmelo Ezpeleta blocked any rider transfers for 2026, so it didn’t happen.
The Ducati satellite team haven’t given up though. Uccio Salucci told MOW that VR46 will do whatever it takes to bring Acosta in. The report also mentioned that Pedro ‘responded with a smile’ when he heard about their continued interest for 2027.
So far, that’s been the only real movement around Acosta as he weighs up what comes next. He’s not ruling out staying with KTM either since he’s been part of the brand for years and values what they’ve done for his career.
Pedro Acosta ‘responded with a smile’ after learning VR46 wanted to sign him
Acosta is looking to leave KTM, who are currently dealing with financial troubles, and his manager Albert Valera has already started speaking with other teams.
Honda are reportedly interested in the 21-year-old as they look to climb back to the top of the sport. While they have strong financial backing, Ducati remain the more appealing option.
Acosta tried to leave KTM for VR46 earlier this season. Valentino Rossi has made no secret of his admiration for Acosta, but Carmelo Ezpeleta blocked any potential move for 2026.
The interest from VR46 hasn’t gone away. Team director Uccio Salucci told MOW that they will “try everything” to bring Acosta on board in 2027. The report also mentioned that Acosta “responded with a smile” when he heard about their continued interest.
This is still early days for Acosta’s next move, and he hasn’t rushed into anything just yet. He wants to keep the possibility of staying at KTM open, given how long he’s been with them and what they’ve helped him achieve so far.
KTM must give Pedro Acosta a winning bike if they want him to stay beyond 2026
It’s not just VR46 watching closely from within Borgo Panigale. Ducati themselves have Pedro Acosta at the top of their list as a possible replacement for Francesco Bagnaia.

KTM are under increasing pressure due to all of this outside interest. Even though they’re committed to MotoGP and already working towards new regulations in 2027, Bajaj’s cost-cutting measures aren’t exactly reassuring for a rider focused on winning titles.
