Pearce comments on London Stadium; Owen predicts West Ham v Arsenal

West Ham United will face Arsenal in the Premier League this evening.

West Ham United assistant manager Stuart Pearce said on The Monday Night Club show on BBC Radio 5 live on Monday evening (8:14pm, December 11, 2017) that moaning about the London Stadium has to stop.

The Hammers moved to the London Stadium in the summer of 2016 after leaving the Boleyn Ground at the end of the 2015-16 campaign.

Many West Ham fans have not taken to the club’s new home ground, claiming that it lacks atmosphere and is not a real football stadium.

The team’s performances and results at the London Stadium have not been great over the past year-and-a-half or so.

West Ham assistant manager Pearce, who was recently appointed in the role, has said that there is no point in moaning about the London Stadium, and has urged everyone at the club to accept that it is their new home.

Pearce said on the The Monday Night Club on BBC Radio 5 live on Monday evening (8:14pm, December 11, 2017): “I think West Ham as a football club now have got a fantastic stadium, and I think it’s important that we as a football club create history in that stadium.

“There’s nothing to be gained from West Ham by saying it’s not a football stadium, whatever. All that does is benefit the other 19 teams in the Premier League. What we have to do is say, ‘This is our home as a football club. Let’s create some fantastic memories’.”

Meanwhile, former Liverpool and Manchester United striker Michael Owen has predicted that West Ham United will either win or draw with Arsenal at the London Stadium in the Premier League on Wednesday evening.

Owen wrote on Betvictor.com: “A fascinating game at the London Stadium with West Ham looking to build on a fabulous win against champions Chelsea at the weekend and Arsenal desperate to return to winning ways having salvaged a point at St Mary’s courtesy of Olivier Giroud’s late header.

“Arsene Wenger must do without the injured Aaron Ramsay, which is a blow to the Gunners, and I was taken with the Hammers spirit and defensive qualities against Chelsea. If there is to be a winner midweek, I think it will be the hosts.”

A footnote added: “Tip: West Ham Double Chance (draw or win) at 5/4.”
