HITC Sport takes a look at three potential summer transfer targets for Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Wolverhampton Wanderers fans will be glad to have put the last season behind them. After bringing in Italian manager Walter Zenga at the beginning of the season, Wolves fans were hoping to watch their team fight for promotion last season.

But things quickly went from bad to worse for Zenga, and soon Paul Lambert was brought in to fight the fires of the previous regime. Closer to fighting relegation than for promotion, Wolves fans will be hoping for drastically better fortunes next season.

But with the club still needing to work carefully within the limits of Financial Fair Play, Wolves will be more likely looking to strengthen their side with bargains this summer, as opposed to splashing the kind of sums they spent on players such as Helder Costa last season.

With this in mind, we’ve put together a list of three recently released players who could add something to this Wolverhampton Wanderers side.

Marley Watkins (Barnsley)

The English midfielder has played a major part in Barnsley’s immensely successful season this year under Paul Heckingbottom, and has been the subject of a lot of interest already this summer, according to the Daily Mail. The winger rejected a new deal with the Tykes, and will join the likes of Conor Hourihane, James Bree and Sam Winnall as Barnsley once again lose one of their best players. In need of more options out wide, Watkins could be an ideal signing for Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Jason Lowe (Blackburn Rovers)

The Blackburn Rovers captain is departing Ewood Park after seven years with the club. First breaking into the team back in 2010 after emerging from the youth academy, Lowe has been one of the few good performers for relegated Rovers this season. With Wolves’ Dominic Iorfa potentially leaving the club, Lowe could be a good replacement, and may be keen to link up with former manager, Paul Lambert, again.

John Ruddy (Norwich City)

Another player who may wish to reunite with former boss, Lambert is John Ruddy. Ruddy would be an excellent signing for Wolverhampton Wanderers. Long-serving goalkeeper Carl Ikeme has been a great servant for Wolves, but after the failures of this season, Lambert may wish to completely reshape the spine of his team: starting with the goalkeeper. Ruddy has made over 230 appearances for Norwich City, and has accumulated over 380 professional appearances in total during his career.
