HITC Sport takes a look at three potential loan players Newcastle United should pursue this summer, including a Chelsea striker and a Manchester United midfielder.
Newcastle United fans
With Newcastle United looking all but set to make a swift return to the Premier League, the club are very likely to already be preparing lists of potential transfer targets in the summer. Despite having a strong squad, the Magpies will likely need quality reinforcements for next season, as the club battles to keep itself in the Premier League under Rafa Benitez.
So which players might Newcastle United be tempted to take a look at this summer? HITC Sport has piled together a list of three potential loan targets for the Mapgies, but do you agree with our choices? Be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments!
1. Timothy Fosu-Mensah (Manchester United)

The Dutch holding-midfielder, who can also play as a defender, has impressed Manchester United fans when he has played, and many thought he was all set to break into regular first-team action under Louis van Gaal’s tenure. However, under Jose Mourinho the Dutchman has found his chances limited, and may seek football elsewhere for a season as he looks to keep developing. Might Fosu-Mensah offer an amount of versatility to this Newcastle United side?
2. Tammy Abraham – Chelsea (on loan at Bristol City)
England’s Tammy Abraham scores
The young striker has been on fire for Bristol City this season, scoring an impressive 19 goals and making three assists. Strong, skillful and with an eye for goal, Tammy Abraham’s signature is likely to be hotly contested this season, and Newcastle United would be smart to get themselves to the front of the que. As Rafa Benitez tends to favour having two strikers on the pitch, could a potential Gayle/Abraham partnership be on the cards?
3. Kelechi Iheanacho – Manchester City
Manchester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho
The Nigerian forward has looked really impressive whenever he’s played for Manchester City, and has already scored an impressive 21 goals in 58 games for the Blues. However, with the arrival of Gabriel Jesus and the return of Wilfried Bony, Kelechi Iheanacho may well find his chances of first team football limited next season, and his club may see it fit to send him out to another Premier League club, in order to get more experience. Would Newcastle United really say no to a young, talented Premier League goalscorer?
