HITC Sport takes a look at three Bundesliga players Newcastle United should pursue this summer.

Newcastle United have had an outstanding season in the Championship, and look well on track to bounce straight back to the Premier League at the first time of asking; an unsurprising turn of events.

After the club tied down Champions League winning manager Rafa Benitez, Newcastle have worked hard to prove that their nightmare season in the Premier League was a one off.

However, Newcastle will know full well that they will have to add to their side over the summer, in order to be best equipped to stay up in the Premier League.

Benitez is likely to already be drawing together lists of potential transfer targets, and with this in mind, HITC Sport has decided to take a look at three players in the German Bundesliga, who the Magpies might want to target in the summer.

1. Anthony Modeste – FC Koln

Anthony Modeste

The former Blackburn Rovers player has been on fire for FC Koln in the Bundesliga this season, and currently has one of the best goal-scoring records in European football for this campaign.

His 24 goals in 28 games this season has him just behind Robert Lewandowski and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the German top flight, and the striker may well fancy a second shot at conquering the Premier League if given the opportunity.

2. Emil Forsberg – RB Leipzig

Forsberg

The Swedish winger has been excellent for RB Leipzig this season, and has played a major part in the club’s incredible rise up the Bundesliga. Excellent from a dead ball situation, as well as skillful with the ball at his feet, Emil Forsberg is one of the brighter talents in the German first division, and may well be tempted by a move to the Premier League, especially by a club the size of Newcastle.

3. Kevin Kampl – Bayer Leverkusen

The Slovenian midfielder was expected to achieve big things after joining Borussia Dortmund from RB Salzburg in 2014. However, things did not work out for him during his time at Jurgen Klopp’s side, and he eventually moved to German outfit Bayer Leverkusen in 2015.

There, Kampl has shown people just what he is capable of, playing a leading role in the club’s impressive Champions League campaign this season. He might cost a pretty penny or two, but Kampl might be the kind of player who could take Newcastle to the next level.
