Carlos Carvalhal’s side won for the first time in five games in midweek, albeit against relegated Rotherham. Newcastle are a different proposition entirely though. Expect Rafael Benitez’s side to once again edge a victory without stepping out of second gear.

Wednesday are making life difficult for themselves at the moment and I fully expect Newcastle to take advantage of that. The Magpies won’t want to lose too much ground on Brighton so I expect a win for them, if only by a fine margin.

Victory against already relegated Rotherham may have put Sheffield Wednesday back in the play-off places, but virtually everyone has beaten Rotherham this season, so it’s yet to be seen whether they are over their poor patch of form. Newcastle’s home form has been wobbly this season, poorer than the likes of Aston Villa’s and Norwich’s, but I can see them edging this one either 1-0 or 2-1.

Wednesday simply must take something in this match having gotten a much needed win against Rotherham, but they won’t have it easy against a Newcastle team who could be in second place by kickoff. It’ll be tight, and I think neither side will be able to find a winner.

Wednesday ended their four-game winless run at Rotherham on Tuesday, but it was far from pretty. Having Fernando Forestieri back will certainly help their cause against the league leaders, but they could do with Sam Hutchinson and Kieran Lee too. Newcastle have been far better away from home this season, and I fancy them to have enough at Hillsborough.
