Leeds United take on Preston North End on Saturday in the Championship and HITC pundits give their predictions on the likely outcome.

Danny Owen

Leeds United 0-1 Preston NE

Leeds simply cannot afford to lose three in a row. Yet, with Preston fresh from putting five past Bristol City, the unthinkable could happen at Elland Road. Garry Monk’s side are suffering a creative drought with Chris Wood starved of service and a defeat would cut the gap to Preston to five points.

Simon Grayson will be well up for this one, as an ex-Leeds United manager, and in Preston North End Garry Monk will be coming up against a very well drilled and organised side. As good as Leeds have been this season, I expect Preston’s defensive work to pay off and for them to grab a point at Elland Road.

Leeds United 2-2 Preston NE

A hard game to call at Elland Road. Preston North End are unbeaten in their last five games, whilst Leeds have lost two on the bounce. Preston will want to keep their slender chances of making the play-off’s alive, but Leeds have tended to do well at home this season. At the risk of sitting on the fence, I can see an exciting score-draw in the offing.

Leeds United 2-1 Preston NE

This is a must win game for Leeds, who will only be five points in front of Preston if they lose. Two losses in a row have threatened Garry Monk’s playoff hopes, and the visitors battered Bristol 5-0 in their last game. But I expect Chris Wood to find his scoring boots again and seal the three points in a tight contest.

Leeds have been rocked by back-to-back defeats following the international break, while Preston will be buoyed by Tuesday’s mauling of Bristol City, which moved them a point closer to the play-offs. Sadly for them, the Whites are don’t often drop points at Elland Road so I’m saying home win, with Preston lucky to score.
