Aston Villa could open the door to Fulham in their play-off pursuit if they could pull off a win against Sheffield Wednesday. The Owls dropped points against Burton Albion midweek, with Fulham in fine form. I think a draw is the most likely result, with a much-improved Villa side still finding their feet under Steve Bruce.

Villa may have lost to Huddersfield last time out but they were good value for at least a point and I can see them getting back to winning ways against Sheffield Wednesday. This is a match they would have lost a few short weeks ago but the Villans are a different proposition now, although it will be a close contest.

I don’t quite think Sheffield Wednesday have enough to get all three points against a Villa side who for the most part have improved recently. With just one goal conceded in four for Steve Bruce’s men, this will be tight, and is likely to finish up a score draw.

Villa have been on a fairly good run of late but, with so many changes in January, they remain a side in transition. Wednesday have hardly set the division alight this season, but tend to show their class against teams who come at them – a la Norwich last Saturday. The Villa Park crowd will want their players to attack the Owls and that could work in the visitors’ favour.
