Nottingham Forest brought in five new players before the close of the January transfer window.

It is a miserable month for Nottingham Forest football club. Sitting 18th in the table, and facing a potential relegation battle, the two-time European Cup-winning club have fallen a long way.

Sacking manager Phillipe Montanier, Forest have faced problems both on the pitch and off it, after recently being rejected by Burton Albion boss Nigel Clough when interviewed for the job.

Forest Chairman Fawaz Al Hasawi, a character who splits opinion greatly at the City Ground, had been trying to sell the club this month. However, a deal fell through with American businessman John Jay Moores, and now the club is in desperate need of stability.

This is something Fawaz has promised to bring since the takeover deal fell through, and he has made the first steps towards securing Forest’s place in the Championship by spending big in the final few days on the transfer window.

Bringing in Bolton Wanderers forward Zach Clough and Chesterfield winger Gboly Ariyibi on permanent deals, as well as securing the loan signings of Joao Teixeira and Aston Villa pair Aaron Tshibola and Ross McCormack, Forest have undoubtedly improved their squad.

But which signing should have fans most excited?

Aston Villa's Ross McCormack reacts

Despite a relatively poor season so far, Ariyibi is considered to be one of the more exciting League One talents, and Clough, who impressed many for Bolton when they were in the Championship last season, is an exciting young goalscorer.

Tshibola, who has failed to make his mark at Villa, will also be dying to prove what he can do, as will Teixeira, who enjoyed a great loan spell with Brighton in the past, but struggled to impress at Wolves.

McCormack has arguably been one of the best strikers in the division for many years, but his time at Villa has been tough since the arrival of Steve Bruce. Clearly needing a fresh start, a potential partnership with Forest striker Britt Assombalonga might just bring the best out of the 29-year-old.
