Over the course of the last few days, fans have been taking part in a HITC Sport poll, voting for the goalkeeper they believe is the best in the Championship. Shot-stoppers from clubs such as Leeds United, Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion were selected.

But which keeper took the top spot? Here’s a rundown of how the votes panned out, and who came away as the fan-voted best goalkeeper in the Championship…

3. Karl Darlow (Newcastle United) – 17%

The Newcastle United keeper has had to wait for his turn at St James Park, after signing from Nottingham Forest in 2015. However, Darlow has taken his chance with both gloves, and is now Newcastle United’s undisputed number one. An exciting young talent, Darlow’s rise at St James Park is not only a good thing for Newcastle, but a good thing for the England national side, and the former Forest man could well be a Premier League player again by the end of the season.

2. Rob Green (Leeds United) – 26%

Under Garry Monk’s leadership, Rob Green has really found his spark again at Leeds United. After leaving West Ham United, Green had a tough time at a struggling Queens Park Rangers side. However, at Elland Road the keeper has really flourished, rekindling the kind of form that got him in the England squad. With the Whites pushing for promotion, Rob Green may well be back in the Premier League next year.

1. Keiren Westwood (Sheffield Wednesday) – 43%

Storming the vote with 43%, fans voted Sheffield Wednesday’s Keiren Westwood as the best goalkeeper in the Championship. Despite suffering from injury setbacks this season, the Republic of Ireland shot-stopper’s performances last season have stuck strong in the memory of Championship supporters. Should Sheffield Wednesday fail to get promoted at the end of the season, might the Owls face a battle to keep hold of the Championship’s best keeper in the summer?
