The Rams’ U23 striker and defensive talent are on the verge of joining the Sky Blues until the end of the season.
According to a report in the Coventry Telegraph, Derby County youngsters Charles Vernam and Farrend Rawson are all set to join Russell Slade’s Coventry City on loan until the end of the season.
The report suggests that the Rams’ under-23 pair Rawson, a tall left-sided centre-half, and Vernam, a lively striker with ten goals to his name so far this term in the U23 league, will join up with Coventry City sometime this week to train with the Sky Blues for the first time after agreeing half-season loans at the Ricoh Arena.
Rotherham’s Farrend Rawson
Rawson, who enjoyed a successful loan spell with Rotherham United during Steve Evans’ time at the club, has experience in playing for a relegation-threatened side, and could add some much needed steeliness to the Coventry back line.
Striker Vernam, aged 20, is the leading scorer for Derby County’s U-23 squad. He is a quick and skillful forward who can play as a striker or attacking midfielder.
After joining the Rams in 2012 from Scunthorpe United, the youngster has shown plenty of promise as part of a promising looking Derby youth academy, and he made his professional debut for the Rams in the FA Cup against West Bromwich Albion.
The pair will be Slade’s fifth and sixth signings of the January transfer window, and the second and third loans, following midfielder Callum Reilly’s move from Burton Albion.
With Slade’s side facing a serious uphill battle, hopefully these two signings can be the start of a push in the right direction for the Football League giant.
