Pawel Cibicki wished Leeds United luck ahead of their opening game of the new Championship season.
Pawel Cibicki may have left Leeds on loan, but the forward showed that he has not forgotten about his parent club by sending the team a simple message ahead of their Championship season curtain-raiser with Stoke on Sunday.
The Swede endured an extremely difficult spell at Leeds, only making a handful of appearances for the Whites and only managing to show occasional glimpses of his quality. A superb display against Queens Park Rangers and then a classy assist against Norwich City shortly before the turn of the year was not followed up upon.
It surprised few when the club allowed Cibicki to head out on loan this summer. In fact, it was probably more of a shock that he did only head out on a temporary basis, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer taking him to Molde until the end of 2018.
Despite the loan, it does appear unlikely – though there is little reason to not believe that the situation could potentially still change – that Cibicki will end up staying on Leeds’ books for much longer. Nevertheless, he went out of his way to wish the team well ahead of Marcelo Bielsa’s first competitive game in charge.

It may not have worked out for Cibicki, but it would seem harsh to suggest that his struggles were all down to the 24-year-old himself. As mentioned, there were glimpses of undeniable quality when he was given a chance, and there were times when Thomas Christiansen and Paul Heckingbottom were getting calls from the fans to throw him in as the wheels were falling off the season.
It is a classy touch from Cibicki to wish the side well given he would probably be forgiven for wanting to largely forget about his spell with Leeds and focus on the future, but Bielsa will be hoping that his side enjoy the kind of successful campaign that allows Cibicki’s potential return in January to go almost completely under the radar.
