The transfer deadline is just three weeks away, are Tottenham Hotspur ready to move?
As always it promises to be a frantic transfer window. One man notorious for his wheeling and dealing is Harry Redknapp, who will want to capitalise on Spurs’ fantastic league position and aid a title push.
Two issues he has to deal with are the negotiations of two of his strikers who want out.
Despite playing and scoring in the FA Cup this weekend against Cheltenham, Giovani Dos Santos and Roman Pavlyuchenko have probably pulled on Spurs’ shirts for the last time.
Both strikers were desperate to move on in the summer, but Spurs’ demanding high transfer fees prevented both from leaving.
The Russian’s agent told Sky Sports yesterday that he feared Tottenham would again price him out of a move, with QPR believed to be strongly interested along with several sides in his homeland.
At 30-years-old he needs to move to play regularly, and expect him to leave this January if an offer comes in close to Spurs’ valuation.
Giovani Dos Santos is in the same boat, the talented Mexican’s career has stalled at White Hart Lane and he is most likely to head back to Spain where he ended last season on loan.
Spurs want £10 million for him, which they are unlikely to get, so they need to drop their asking price, but all should start pulling in the same direction as there is no need to have him sitting in the reserves.
Harry Redknapp said after the Cheltenham game, “I think Gio will move if we get the right player to replace him.”
That right player is set to be Canadian Junior Hoilett who Blackburn boss Steve Kean admits he has no idea if he will be able to keep him.
His contract expires in the summer and a bid in the region of £8 million should seal the signature of the talented 21-year-old forward, but Spurs will have to act quickly as other sides including Liverpool and Stoke are already rumoured to be interested.
If Tottenham can pull these deals off they will be better placed to fight for the Premier League.
Getting rid of two ‘deadwood’ players who have barely contributed to their title charge is well worth it if it means signing one who can.
