Everton have little to play for in the final few weeks of the season, but manager Sam Allardyce is certainly fighting for his future as Toffees boss.

Allardyce was only appointed as Ronald Koeman’s successor in November, but poor results and a dull brand of football mean his 18-month deal could come to an abrupt end this summer.

The Mirror report that Everton’s majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri is edging towards sacking Allardyce this summer, as he wants to finally bring Shakhtar Donetsk boss Paulo Fonseca as his replacement.

Everton wanted Fonseca in November and could now finally land Moshiri’s dream manager for the Toffees job, and he should be very familiar with Everton’s latest transfer target.

Porto's Malian forward Moussa Marega celebrates after scoring a goal during the Portuguese league football match FC Porto vs Maritimo at the Dragao stadium in Porto, on December 18, 2017.

A Bola carried quotes from agent Aziz Ben Aissa over the weekend, and he revealed that Everton have made contact over a £35million deal for Porto striker Moussa Marega.

Marega, 25, has hit 22 goals in 33 games this season, and the powerful Mali international could head to Goodison Park this summer to boost the attacking options in the final third.

Intriguingly, Fonseca should be very familiar with the striker, given that he has managed against him. When Marega was turning out for Maritimo, Fonseca was managing rivals Braga, and will be well aware of Marega’s strengths and limitations.

Fonseca’s added insight on Marega could be a deciding factor on whether Everton do push through with a move for the striker or not, with Moshiri seemingly readying himself to move for the Shakhtar boss this summer.
