Tottenham Hotspur look set to end their managerial search once and for all, with Paulo Fonseca the hot favourite to become their new boss – and he’s already managed reported target Ebrima Darboe.

Spurs parted ways with Jose Mourinho in April, and have taken almost two months to find the man they want to take over, having received a number of knockbacks.

Sky Italia now believe that Fonseca could be Tottenham manager within a matter of days, having been picked out by new sporting director Fabio Paratici.

Who is Tottenham target Ebrima Darboe?

Tottenham may look to raid Roma for some players Fonseca knows well, and a hot favourite would have to be midfielder Ebrima Darboe.

Corriere Dello Sport reported last month that Tottenham wanted to sign Darboe, having been impressed with the youngster’s progress in Italy.

Darboe, 20, was born in Gambia but left his home country at 14 in search of a better life, heading to Libya before eventually finding his way to Italy.

Roma landed him in 2017, and he hit the headlines last month as he excelled against Manchester United in the Europa League before even being trusted to start against bitter rivals Lazio.

A classy holding midfield player, Darboe looks set for a huge future – and Tottenham will hope that future is with them.

What has Fonseca said about him?

Tottenham-bound Fonseca is a huge fan having been the one to give Darboe his Roma debut, and has raved about the youngster.

As quoted by Football Italia, Fonseca branded Darboe ‘rare’ whilst claiming that he made a huge difference to Roma’s season and praising his courage.

Darboe seemingly loves playing for Fonseca, and if Tottenham can reunite the pair, it could be a recipe for great success.
