The Rotherham United manager, Paul Warne, has hinted his side missed out to Wigan Athletic over the Sheffield United striker, Leon Clarke.

Clarke left Sheffield United last week to return to Wigan on loan until the end of the season, having previously spent time at the DW Stadium whilst on the books of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The 33-year-old’s new club visit Rotherham in the Championship on Saturday. And asked if Clarke could have lined up on the opposing side instead, Warne told BBC Radio Sheffield: “Well, anything’s possible.

“I was aware of his availability, but I think he was a long way down the road with Wigan and, you know, he chose that.
