Pundit Paul Walsh has told Sky Sports’ Soccer Special that he thinks Mauricio Pochettino will be delighted with Tottenham’s 1-0 win over CSKA Moscow, and suggested that Heung-min Son was a constant threat.
Tottenham headed to Russia on Tuesday in search of a vital three points, having lost 2-1 to Monaco at Wembley Stadium in their first Champions League group stage game.

With no Harry Kane, Danny Rose, Moussa Sissoko, Eric Dier or Mousa Dembele, many were concerned that Spurs would slip up in Moscow – but they got the win they needed.
In a tight, tense affair, Spurs got the winning goal in the second half as Erik Lamela threaded a pass into the in-form Heung-min Son, and his shot squirmed through Igor Akinfeev and trickled into the net.
After Bayer Leverkusen conceded a late equaliser against Monaco, Tottenham now sit second in Group E, just a point behind leaders Monaco as they prepare to face Leverkusen shortly after the international break.

Following the final whistle, pundit Paul Walsh – who racked up more than 150 appearances for Spurs as a player – offered his verdict on the game to Sky Sports’ Soccer Special.
Walsh suggested that Tottenham were deserved winners considering their possession and chances crated, but noted that Spurs did get a little lucky in that CSKA didn’t take one of their half chances.
Walsh added that Pochettino will be delighted to have blooded a couple of young players in Harry Winks and Georges-Kevin Nkoudou, who came on as substitutes, whilst he hailed winger Son for another superb display.

“Over the 90 minutes, they provided the better chances, had more probing passes, had more possession, more attempts on goal, and had more intent considering that they were the away team,” said Walsh. “There were moments where CSKA still had half chances, and that’s what it’s like at this level. You can have large parts of a game where you’ve got most of the ball, but you’re still at risk from a good bit of quality from the opposition to turn it around.”
“Luckily for Tottenham, that didn’t happen. Lloris, right at the end of the game, came and took a couple of crosses that took the pressure off them. Son was a constant threat and got his goal eventually, and I think Pochettino will be delighted as he brought on a couple of young players as well who got a taste of European football, so overall, I think he’ll be really satisfied with his night’s work,” he added.
