Leeds United take on Cardiff City in the Championship this weekend – looking to build on their win against Blackburn Rovers in midweek.

The game is being played as an early kick-off in Cardiff tomorrow, and that means a return to South Wales for the Leeds manager Garry Monk. But he cannot expect a merry welcome on his return to the region, as his allegiance is with Swansea City.

Monk spent ten years at Swansea as a player also managed the club prior to taking the job at Leeds in the summer.

Cardiff City manager Paul Trollope is certainly hoping that the Leeds manager does not enjoy himself on his return to Wales.

He told BBC Wales Sport today:

“He’s well known in south Wales and hopefully he won’t be enjoying his trip back this time,” said Trollope.

“I’m fully aware the rivalry between the clubs, if adds a bit of spice then bring it on.”

The Leeds boss played down his Swansea links earlier in the week but there is no doubt that the Cardiff fans will not be forgetting Monk’s previous loyalties to their big South-Wales rivals.

Leeds fans will hope that the players, including Swansea alumni such as Kyle Bartley, Matt Grimes and Pablo Hernandez, can get one over on their former rivals this Saturday lunchtime.
