Scott Brown has won seven Scottish Premiership titles with Celtic, many as captain, but Paul Scholes is not sure how he would have done in England.

Paul Scholes has told the Sunday Mail that while Scott Brown has enjoyed a brilliant spell with Celtic, he has his doubts as to whether the Hoops skipper would have been as influential if he had been playing his football at the sharp end of the Premier League.

Brown has been a key man for the Bhoys for a decade, helping Celtic win seven Scottish Premiership titles, three Scottish Cups and three League Cups.

Despite many of those honours coming during the 31-year-old’s spell as captain of the side, Scholes – who won 11 Premier League titles and the Champions League on two occasions – has expressed his doubts as to whether Brown would have enjoyed as glittering a career playing south of the border.

“Scott is in the right place. He’s a real leader,” he told Mail Sport.

“I’ve watched him over the years in the Celtic team but it’s hard to gauge the level of the Scottish game compared to down here.

“Scott has had a fantastic career with Celtic. But could he have done the same with a big club down in England? I’m not sure he’d have had the same influence.”

While it is difficult to know how well Brown would have done playing for one of the top sides in England, his achievements with Celtic must not be overlooked.

Although his form has dipped occasionally, there is no question that the midfielder has been a focal point of the team, inspiring them to an incredible amount of success, culminating in going through the entire domestic campaign unbeaten and winning the treble this past season.

And while Scholes has his doubts about whether Brown would have thrived in England, Celtic fans will probably be delighted that he has never looked to make the move.
