Paul Scholes has said on BT Sports that Arsenal will lose to Manchester United if the Gunners and the Red Devils reach the Europa League final.

Premier League rivals Arsenal and United have progressed to the semi-finals of the Europa League this season.

While Mikel Arteta’s side got the better of Slavia Prague 5-1 on aggregate in the quarter-finals, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team won 4-0 on aggregate against Granada in the last eight.

Arsenal will take on Villarreal in the semi-finals, while United will face AS Roma for a place in the final.

United legend Scholes believes that Arsenal will lose to the Red Devils if the two sides progress to the final.

Scholes said on BT Sports, as transcribed by Football.London: “That would be great. Arsenal, playing against them, you’d fancy them [United] to win that. Any team left in this competition, they wouldn’t worry about it.”

The Englishman added: “The one thing Arsenal do have is the experience of winning a big game, they beat City in an FA Cup final with Arteta.

“They’ve not been great this year, but that would worry you slightly. I still think United will win it, though.”

Winning the semi-final ties

A final between United and Arsenal will be mouth-watering and could be a classic, but for now, the two English teams cannot get carried away.

AS Roma will not be easy pushovers for the Red Devils, while the Gunners have to be wary of a Villarreal side managed by their former manager Unai Emery.

United and Arsenal will have to be on top of their game to win their respective semi-final ties.
