Manchester City closed the gap on Arsenal to four points over the weekend, adding some extra spice to the Premier League title race.

Mikel Arteta’s side were close to grabbing all three points against Sunderland, only for Brian Brobbey to find an equaliser in stoppage time.

On the other hand, Manchester City put together a convincing performance, beating Liverpool 3-0 and cutting Arsenal’s lead before the international break.

Pep Guardiola’s side haven’t looked as sharp as usual this season. But after that win over Liverpool, Paul Scholes weighed in on their chances of catching up in the title race.

Scholes backs Man City over Arsenal in title race

Paul Scholes has come out and said that, after the latest results, he now sees Manchester City as the favourites to win the Premier League title.

The ex-United midfielder hasn’t been blown away by City’s performances this season, but their win over Liverpool seems to have shifted his view.

Speaking on The Good, The Bad & The Football when asked to pick between Arsenal and City, Scholes said: “But I’ve not been impressed by City that much in all honesty.

“It’s been a different way for him to do it, hasn’t it? But yesterday, I thought for the first time, I think they have to be slightly still favourites ahead of Arsenal.”

Meanwhile, Wayne Rooney believes Arsenal will be feeling the pressure from City closing in on them – something they’ve experienced before.

The North London derby awaits after the international break, and Arteta will want a strong reaction from his side when they take on Spurs.

How Arsenal and Man City’s upcoming schedules stack up

Arsenal will welcome Tottenham to the Emirates, while City travel north to face Newcastle United.

The Gunners pulled off a dramatic win at St James’ Park earlier this season, so there’s already a bar set for what kind of result City need.

Following that, it’s Chelsea away, Brentford at home, Aston Villa on the road, and then Wolves back at the Emirates. It’s not an easy stretch but far from the toughest they’ll face this season.

On the positive side for Arsenal, there could be a few players coming back into the fold after the international break. Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke, Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz are all expected to be in contention again.
