Paul Scholes said on BT Sport 1 (9:42pm, February 21, 2021) that Liverpool duo Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi are not good enough for the team.
The Manchester United legend believes that neither Shaqiri nor Origi is good enough to step in when the regular front-three of Liverpool – Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah – are injured or not playing well.
Scholes said on BT Sport 1 (9:42pm, February 21, 2021): “If they are not doing it, Shaqiri and Origi, are they really good enough to go on and win you leagues and score you important goals when the best players are not quite performing or are injured?”
Harsh on Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi?
Scholes is right. Neither Shaqiri nor Origi is a world-class attacking player, and they are not up to the level of Salah, Firmino and Mane.
If the duo were that good, then they probably would not be squad players at Liverpool and would have been playing at another big club on a regular basis.

True, the Switzerland international winger and the Belgium international striker have not been great when called into action this season, but it is not easy for any footballer to play well without getting a run of games.
Moreover, Origi has actually scored important goals for Liverpool. The striker scored twice against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals and one against Tottenham Hotspur in the final in 2019.
