If there was a positive for Liverpool last night, it might’ve been the cameo of Fabio Carvalho v Manchester United.

Jurgen Klopp’s outfit remain winless in the Premier League this season after losing 2-1 at Old Trafford on Monday.

Despite comments from the Liverpool manager at full time, the Red Devils were certainly good value for their victory on a night where the Reds left it too late.

Mohamed Salah halved the deficit with eight minutes remaining, but an equaliser proved elusive for the Anfield side.

Klopp introduced 19-year-old Carvalho with 17 minutes left on the clock and the former Fulham playmaker certainly seemed to inject a new sense of urgency into Liverpool’s attack.

Paul Scholes knows a thing or two about midfield performances and the Manchester United icon was full of praise for the Portuguese teenager at full time.

He told Optus Sport: “I thought Carvalho did well when he came on. He carried the ball, running forward. That’s what I mean about creativity in the middle of the pitch. Milner and Henderson – they’re too similar. When Carvalho came on he actually started running at the defence and trying to create a little bit more.”

Fabio Carvalho v Manchester United

Hopefully for Liverpool and Carvalho, he isn’t earmarked as the player to inspire the Reds’ turnaround this season.

As mentioned, this is a 19-year-old kid and he should be allowed to develop at his own pace, rather than being burdened.

There’s no doubt that Klopp is missing a lot of influential players, but even still it would be unfair to ask Carvalho – labelled a ‘massive talent‘ by his manager – to be the man to change the Merseysiders’ fortunes.

There will be calls by supporters to start him against Bournemouth on Saturday but Klopp should resist that temptation because if he makes the starting lineup, and Liverpool stutter again, well he’ll be in the firing line when he shouldn’t have even been in the XI.
